A Successful Collaboration to upgrade Skills in Automotive Industry
24 August 2005, Shah Alam, Selangor – Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) sealed an agreement with Hyundai – Sime Darby Motors Sdn. Bhd. (HSDM) to further collaborate in programmes related to automotive industry when both parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today.
The MoU will reinforce mutual cooperation between UniKL and Hyundai – Sime Darby Motors Sdn. Bhd. to collaborate in the areas of Technical and Non – Technical Skill Programmes to upgrade the skills and knowledge of HSDM staff. UniKL shall provide its expertise through proposals on relevant short courses as well as customised courses including the Continuous Development Programme jointly collaborated with the Institute of the Motor Industry, United Kingdom for HSDM. On the other hand, HSDM will prepare placements for students of UniKL for industrial training in their final year.
The signing ceremony was attended by Prof. Dato’ Seri Dr. Ibrahim Saad, President / Chief Executive Officer of Universiti Kuala Lumpur while Hyundai – Sime Darby Motors Sdn. Bhd. was represented by its Managing Director, Dato’ Ben Yeoh Choon San. Dato’ Ben Yeoh commented that “The company is committed to develop its human resources skills especially in automotive sector.” It is indeed a privilege given the opportunity to work with Hyundai – Sime Darby Motors Sdn. Bhd. as this joint force will enable a technology transfer from the industry into our courses. Our students from 2 of our branch campuses, namely Malaysia France Institute (UniKL MFI) and Malaysian Spanish Institute (UniKL MSI), will certainly value the experience undergoing their practical training in Hyundai – Sime Darby Motors Sdn. Bhd in their final year as they are able to relate their knowledge and skills with the industrial exposure”, said Dato’ Seri Ibrahim Saad.

Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL), Malaysia’s first technical university is a private institution of higher learning licensed by Ministry of Education and managed by Universiti Teknikal MARA Sdn. Bhd. There are 15 Degree Programmes, 1 Foundation Programme and 32 Diploma Programmes in Engineering Technology conducted at the various branch campuses of UniKL. All the diploma programmes are 3 years programmes and are conducted in English.
