Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors Sdn Bhd spearheaded the motor vehicle industry to initiate and to enter into the agreement with JPJ to implement the E-Daftar and NIK system.
Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors Sdn Bhd participated in the signing ceremony of E-Daftar and NIK with Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalan (JPJ) on the 6 Jun 2005, held at the Cyberlodge Hotel, Putrajaya. The ceremony was graced by the Menteri Pengangkutan, Yang Berhormat Dato’ Seri Chan Kong Choy.

Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors Sdn Bhd spearheaded the group of top five vehicle manufacturers and distributors in Malaysia, to initiate and to enter into the agreement with JPJ to implement the E-Daftar and NIK system. The group of five manufacturers and distributors are Proton Berhad, Proton Edar Sdn Bhd, Perodua Sales Sdn Bhd, UMW Toyota Sdn Bhd and Edaran Otomobil Nasional Berhad.
E-Daftar and NIK systems implementation are mooted by government to revolutionized the registration of vehicle via electronic and internet application. E-Daftar, acronym for Electronic Daftar, was an initiative by JPJ to improve the efficiency in vehicle registration. NIK, acronym for Nombor Identifikasi Kenderaan, was introduced by JPJ to reduce and prevent fraudulent activities in vehicle registration, of which vehicle cannot be registered at JPJ if NIK information is not found in JPJ System.
According to the press statement released by the Minister of Transportation, all car manufacturers must comply and implement the E-Daftar and NIK by end of 2005, of which failing to do so, JPJ will not accept any registration of vehicle not comply with the requirement of the both system.
