NEW GETZ 1.4 WINS A NST-AMBANK GROUP
SMALL CAR OF THE YEAR 2006 AWARD
29th Nov 2006, Kuala Lumpur. - The New Getz 1.4 continues to live up to its impressive track record by winning the Small Car Category of the NST-Ambank Group Car of the Year Awards 2006. Vowing the panel of seasoned Malaysian motoring journalists, the New Getz 1.4 beats 7 other vehicles in its category to win hands down.
It was a proud moment for all at Hyundai-Sime Darby Motor Sdn. Bhd. and Inokom Corporation Sdn. Bhd. when En. Azlan Ismail, Managing Director of Hyumal Motor went on stage to collect the award in a formal evening function attended by all the top corporate figures from the local motor industry, the New Straits Times Group, Ambank Group and selected guests.
The Malaysian award is one of the many that the New Getz has won. It was crowned Australia’s “Best Small Car” (2003), Scottish “Small Car of the Year” (2003), U.K.’s What Car? Magazine “Budget Car of the Year” (2003), U.K.’s 5th Gear programme “Budget Car Champion”, Denmark’s “Best Seller” (2003) and Portugal’s “Car of the Year” (1.5CRDi – 2004) titles. Getting the international coveted awards also confirmed that the Getz has gained sufficient public confidence and reached overall standards high enough to push aside the more established and larger auto manufacturers.
The New Getz has impressed both the motoring journalists and motoring enthusiasts with its modern and attractive styling, safety (4-star EuroNCAP), fuel economy, interior space, gutsy engine and excellent road manners (comfort and stability). Code-named “TB” (derived from ‘Talented B-class/segment’ or Supermini class in Europe), the Getz was officially launched in October 2002 and a facelift exercise in 2005. It is also known as the ‘Click’ in Korea and Dodge Brisa in South America.
In Malaysia, the Getz is assembled in the 1.4-litre version under the Inokom umbrella and has a long list of practical features that include dual driver’s seat height adjustment, twin vanity mirrors, trip computer, driver’s foldable centre armrest, split 60/40 rear seat, alloy wheels and triple deck luggage compartment.
The award presentation was held on 29th November 2006 at the posh and exclusive Carcosa Seri Negara in Kuala Lumpur. Guests of honour included YB Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, Minister of Entrepreneur & Co-operative Development, Yg. Bhg. Tan Sri Dato’ Azman Hashim, Chairman, Ambank Group, Yg. Bhg. Dato’ Hishamuddin Aun, Group Editor-In-Chief, New Straits Times Group and Yg. Bhg. Datuk Khaled Nordin of NSTP.
En. Azlan expressed appreciation to the organising committee of the NST-Ambank Group Car of the Year Award for giving an award to the New Getz and all the Malaysian motorists for their support of Hyundai and Inokom vehicles in Malaysia.
