KUALA LUMPUR, 27 March 2014 – Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors (HSDM) had double the reason to celebrate when the new generation five-door hatchback i30 and its latest 3S centre were launched simultaneously in Cheras today.

The latest addition to Hyundai’s C-segment will certainly enhance the appeal for Hyundai’s mid-size cars. The i30 is available in two variants: the i30 1.8L Executive and the i30 1.8L Sport. The i30 1.8L Executive is priced at RM127,888 OTR (inclusive of road tax and insurance, West Malaysia) while the Sport variant that is fitted with a bodykit is priced at RM132,888 OTR (inclusive of road tax and insurance, West Malaysia).

The C-segment i30 is Hyundai’s best selling model in Europe, achieving triple milestones with significant new sales and production landmarks across the globe. Globally, the i30 has achieved sales of more than 1.5 million units.  Designed and developed at Hyundai Motor Europe Technical Centre in Russelsheim Germany, the i30 features Hyundai’s signature fluidic sculpture design and modern architecture that gives it a three-dimensional presence.

It is designed with strong, fluid lines, sculpted to give it an athletic look that exudes a sense of constant motion even when stationary. Its bold stance transmits its confidence through sporty characteristics and dynamic propositions.

According to Mr Lau Yit Mun, Managing Director of Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors (HSDM), the i30 appeals to Malaysians who like sleek sporty designs with a touch of luxury. “The new generation i30’s superior interior quality and refinement as well as its remarkable drivability are the traits that make it popular in European countries,” said Mr Lau.

The new generation i30 is powered by Hyundai’s NU 1.8 MPI engine with Dual-Continuous Variable Valve Timing (DVVT) that produces a maximum power of 150ps at 6,500 rpm and torque of 178Nm at 4,700rpm. Hyundai’s in-house 6-speed automatic transmission also adds to the dynamic performance of the car with outstanding fuel economy.

The interior of the new generation i30 is roomier than the previous model. The 2,650mm wheelbase is one of the longest wheelbases in the C-segment.  The overall length is increased by 20mm (to 4,300mm), width is enlarged by 5mm (to 1780mm) and height has been reduced by 10mm (1,470mm).  The increase in the overall length and width offers more space for occupants and more cargo space for luggage.  The i30 has a boot capacity of 378 litres with the rear seats upright and 1,316L with rear seats folded – an increase of 10% compared to its predecessor. The i30’s versatile seat allows cargo to be loaded and unloaded with ease. Combined with a massive cargo area, there will be ample space for every shape and size.

It has an advanced cockpit area with a touch-of-a-button convenience. Smart features of the new i30 include a panoramic sunroof that can be fully opened or tilted offering passenger flexibility and functionality, a large TFT Supervision cluster that provides a wide range of essential information to the driver in high resolution clarity, parking assist system, a smart key, a rain sensor and a host of other impressive features that are just a button away.

With the Smart Welcome System – the i30 “welcomes” you as you walk towards it. Upon detection of the smart key, the Auto-Folding Outside Mirrors unfold, puddle lamps from the side mirrors activate and the door handles illuminate to give passengers better lighting especially at night.

The new i30 also features the Flex Steer System with three operating modes namely Comfort, Normal and Sport, which allow the driver to select a mode that is best suited to the different driving conditions, making the journey more pleasurable.

The i30 also comes equipped with the latest active and passive safety technologies to ensure maximum protection for its occupants. Active safety features include ESP (Electronic Stability Programme), ABS (Anti-lock Braking System), BAS (Brake Assist System), VSM (Vehicle Stability Management) and Emergency Stop Signal. Passive safety feature include six airbags - front, side, and curtain.
